Sales Engineer

The Sales Engineer reports to the Sales Manager and will generate new business and ensure growth of existing accounts. Assesses potential application of company products or services and offers solutions that meet customer needs. Researches and presents reports showing potential customers the cost benefit of purchasing company products or services. Provides technical training to clients and communicates customer feedback for future product developments. Uses technical knowledge of product offerings to support and build sales.

Essential Functions

  • Identifies current and future customer service requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual customers and other persons in a position to understand service requirements. Provides product, service, or equipment technical and engineering information by answering questions and requests.
  • Establishes new accounts and services accounts by identifying potential customers; planning and organizing sales call schedule.
  • Prepares cost estimates by studying blueprints, plans, and related customer documents; consulting with engineers, mechanical operator, and other professional and technical personnel.
  • Determines improvements by analyzing cost-benefit ratios of equipment, supplies, or service applications in customer environment; engineering or proposing changes in equipment, processes, or use of materials or services.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; advising customer on product, service, or equipment adherence to requirements; advising customer on needed actions.
  • Prepares sales engineering reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing sales information and engineering and application trends.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Contributes to sales engineering effectiveness by identifying short-term and long-range issues that must be addressed; providing information and commentary pertinent to deliberations; recommending options and courses of action; implementing directives.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Physical Demands

  • Standing, Walking, Sitting, Lifting, Carrying, Balancing, Stooping, Reaching, Handling, Feeling, Communicating, Acuity-Far, Acuity-Near, Depth Perception, and Field of Vision.
  • May require a combination of sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Must be able to work in an office environment as well as a shop environment as job duties require. May be exposed to loud operating machinery, cold temperatures, chemicals, and vapors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree – Civil Engineering or Business, will consider other degrees
  • Experience with Microsoft Office 365
  • 3+yrs of related work experience
  • Effective presentation, analytical, communications and customer relationship skills
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record
  • Understanding of the Project Management Institute (PMI) framework
  • Knowledge of various project management methodologies (e.g. agile/scrum)
  • Cost and risk management skills
  • Excellent communication (both written and verbal), interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Ability to make important decisions under pressure
  • Time management skills
  • Three or more years’ experience administering multiple projects in the timber industry preferred
  • Must be flexible and adaptable to changing roles and responsibilities
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and manage those tasks efficiently and effectively
  • Computer literacy in commonly used business software products
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work collaboratively and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, customers and visitors
  • Ability to effectively problem-solve issues
  • Ability to facilitate activities necessary to a project’s completion.
